Strike settled at Ford supplier: A settlement was reached in a strike by 92 members of UAW Local 588 at a Material Services Inc. plant that supplies parts and components to the nearby Ford Motor Co. Torrence Avenue assembly plant in Chicago. Since Dec. 3 the strike has idled 2,000 workers who assemble the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable at the Torrence Plant. The plant will resume car production on two eight-hour shifts Dec. 17.
