Northern Illinois junior Nicole Jeray has been named Golfweek Magazine`s women`s Collegiate Player of the Year.
The Nazareth Academy graduate won three invitationals and had one second in five tournaments this fall.
Making the grade: Soccer players Karsten Roy, Markus Roy and John Lechner have been named to the Midwest Scholar Athlete first team.
Brad Capes, a sophomore offensive tackle, was named to the District 5 All-Academic team, and Jenny McCreary and Amy Lynn were named to the Academic All-American field hockey team.
Fond farewell: Jerry Pettibone`s football coaching career at Northern ended the way it began. Just before a press conference last Friday to discuss his acceptance of the Oregon State head-coaching job, he walked out to his car to find a parking ticket. ”Six years ago yesterday (Dec. 6), there was a press conference at the student center to announce me as Northern Illinois`
head football coach,” he said. ”I went out to my car afterwards, and I had a ticket. I paid the first one, and I`m going to pay this one, too.”
National attention: Willy Roy Jr. finished the soccer season tied for seventh in the country with 48 points (15 goals, 18 assists) and tied for first in assists. He was named to the All-Midwest first team.
