– A Dec. 18 Tempo article on the PBS ”Frontline” program about efforts of the Sioux to recover former tribal lands stated erroneously: ”Today, what remains of the Sioux nation is jammed into the squalor of the Pine Ridge Reservation in the badlands of South Dakota-real estate so bleak no white man wanted it.” The Sioux nation, according to 1988 estimates by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, had nearly 45,000 people living on a dozen reservations other than Pine Ridge, which had a population of about 20,200.
– In the Dec. 18 Sports section, it was reported the Cubs would lose a draft pick with Monday`s signing of free-agent pitcher Dave Smith. Houston will get an extra pick as compensation, but it won`t be charged to the Cubs.
– Incorrect dates were given for the boys Class A and Class AA state basketball championships in the 1991 calendar that ran in the Dec. 20 Sports section. The Class A state tournament is March 8-9; the Class AA state tournament is March 15-16.
