In the Friday section (Dec. 7), an article concerning the display windows of local department stores was accompanied by a photo of a young African-American boy looking into the windows of Marshall Field`s on State Street.

The article praised the Christmas scenes for their ability to ”bring out the child in each of us.” But the ”each of us” displayed in the windows consists of all white faces.

I was glad to read that next year the displays will be changing, and hope that the designers will keep in mind that the holiday mindset of ”good will to all” includes all races. The diversity of Chicago demands recognition not only in store windows, but also in all aspects of life, and certainly extends past this season into ”each of our” new years.
