Rosanne Cash
Interiors (Columbia) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR) 1/2
As its title implies, this is a deeply introspective work by one of country music`s most contemporary-influenced performers. Like the best of such efforts, Cash`s look inside herself produces important reflections that many, maybe most, listeners will recognize in themselves. Unflinchingly, she examines the eternal unsteadiness of personal relationships and, in a particularly affecting song about a 9-month-old baby beaten to death, the casual and all-but-unnoted injustice of the world. As spare and to the point as a dagger, ”Interiors” cuts to the heart of rampant lack of feeling in love, and in general.
