James Richmond, the U.S. attorney in Hammond who over the last 5 1/2 years jailed a number of public officials on corruption charges, is resigning to enter private law practice in Chicago.
Richmond`s decision to step aside, announced Tuesday, will take effect Feb. 22.
His choice of a successor, Deputy U.S. Atty. John F. Hoehner of Porter County, has the support of both Indiana senators, Richard Lugar and Dan Coats.
