Once again, a high-speed police chase has resulted in tragedy. On Feb. 4, a newlywed couple from Oak Forest was killed when their car was struck by a car pursued by the police. These ”criminals” the police were chasing were three shoplifters with a load of blue jeans.
Are high-speed chases really necessary, considering the risk to the innocent? Perhaps these pursuits are more a game for thrill-seeking policemen who watch too many movies than a necessary instrument of justice.
There has to be a better way.
