The Feb. 5 Tribune propagated pacifist disinformation: the claim that the Scud-killing success of the Patriot missile isn`t relevant to SDI.

Columnist Jon Margolis asserted that the Strategic Defense Initiative

”differs qualitatively from anti-missile defense” like the Patriot missile. The lead editorial claimed that the Patriot`s success against Iraqi Scuds ”shows only that a relatively simple missile has been modified to shoot down another fairly simple missile.”

Nuclear missiles differ from Scuds only in the explosive they carry. Each is a ballistic missile-freely falling under gravity`s influence and unequipped to evade an anti-missile missile like the Patriot. In fact, triggering a nuclear explosion is a delicate process; so nuclear missiles are, if anything, more vulnerable than Scuds.

The success of the Patriot missile is directly relevant to an SDI defense against nuclear holocaust.
