I take great offense to the editorial ”Can Yugoslavia alter Balkan history?” printed Feb. 20.

Although the editorial staff of the Tribune may not see the virtue in Croatia seceding from Yugoslavia, Croatians have perfect 20/20 vision in that regard. Secession would be not only economically advantageous, but also politically intelligent and nationally self-preserving.

The statement that the international community would feel most comfortable with the status quo is an insult to all oppressed people struggling for freedom! The international community deemed it a worthy enough cause to start a war to kick Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait but would deny the Croatians and Slovenes the right to assert themselves for their own freedom?
