I was very unhappy with the article in your April 13 paper by Kerry Luft, ”Edison sees Prairie Path power line as cost-justified.”
I am a resident of Wheaton and live along the prairie where Commonwealth Edison may string its high-tension power line. I feel the article missed a large part of the controversy. It stated that ”the cost factor will be important in Edison`s final decision.” What about the health factor? The article totally ignored the question about electromagnetic field emissions.
In a letter I received from the area manager for Edison, I learned that Edison is funding research on this issue. It stated, ”We believe the research is necessary because there is currently no agreement among members of the scientific and medical community on the possible health effects.” Instead of letting Edison make this into an economic issue, we must let people know that this is really a health issue.
