Obscene and obnoxious phone callers, take heed: Illinois Bell has begun testing a system that traces phone calls in Hyde Park, with similar testing planned beginning June 1 in Beverly Hills. When a customer requests the Call Trace service, the phone company-for a fee-sets a ”trap” on the line that allows the customer to have the objectionable caller`s number electronically stored at a Bell office, and to know if the trace has been successful. If the customer decides to take legal action, the identity of the caller will be turned over to the police.
