Personnel: Louie Zagoras, lead guitar, vocals; Doug Falls, bass; Dave Ashdown, drums, vocals.
Formed: March 1989.
Current lineup together since: May 1990, when Ashdown joined.
Sound: ”It`s psychedelic blues with rock roots,” Zagoras says.
Influences: Zagoras cites Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton.
Songwriting: Zagoras writes all songs, though Falls occasionally contributes a riff.
Extracurriculars: Zagoras was also a member of the Nurv, a pop-rock band he left a year ago.
Onstage cover versions: Hendrix`s ”Little Wing” and the Beatles` ”I Am the Walrus” and ”I Want You (She`s So Heavy).”
Memorable concert experience: ”We fell asleep on stage once,” Zagoras says. ”We were playing until 4 o`clock at At the Tracks. They fed us Buffalo wings in the kitchen, and afterward we just lay down by our instruments and fell asleep for about a half hour. We woke up and I thought, `Oh my God, we`re at a gig.` So we played another set.”
Namesake: ”It`s actually a sexual term,” Zagoras says. ”It was kind of a joke. People come and see us and say, ”`Roll Over Beethoven”-how cute,`
but we know the real meaning.”
Recordings: The band has a new self-titled, six-song tape, which is available at gigs. Three songs were recorded at Idful Music earlier this year with engineer Brad Wood, and three were recorded last year in Zagoras`
apartment studio in Evanston. The band plans to return to Idful in August to record six more songs.
Philosophy: ”Roll out of your bed, and come see the band,” Zagoras says. ”We like to have fun with the audience.”
Goals: ”To get signed and to play more gigs with Buddy Guy,” Zagoras says.
Next appearance: Sunday at Biddy Mulligan`s, opening for Buddy Guy; June 8 at the Union.
