Regarding the governor`s proposed budget cuts to the Department on Aging, my feeling is that he doesn`t seem to be fully aware of the effects this may have on people who are participants in some of its programs.

Senior citizens who now have meals delivered to their homes because they are homebound may be faced with the prospect of giving up this autonomy and going into nursing homes, or worse. It is a disgrace that these very vulnerable people who worked all of their lives for this country are not being helped.

It costs $3.75 a day to feed a senior a meal in his own home. It costs $52 a day to keep a senior in a nursing home, under the Medicaid program. This budget cut is not even cost effective! Can we afford this?
