A former Chicago firefighter who was seriously injured in 1983 when the fire truck on which he was riding crashed into a viaduct pillar, settled his lawsuit against the manufacturers of the truck Monday for ”substantial, full and fair compensation,” according to his lawyer.
The settlement agreement for former firefighter John Killeen prohibited disclosure of how much money Killeen will be paid, said attorney Todd Smith. Smith said Killeen suffered a crushed pelvis and other injuries, which gave him a bad limp that forced him to leave the Fire Department. Killeen is now a brick-laying foreman, said Smith.
Killeen was riding on Engine 73 when the truck skidded on ice and struck the pillar, Smith said. The front of the truck collapsed accordion-style, crushing Killeen, Smith said.
