My friends and I went to see a White Sox game recently. We bought $6 bleacher seats-up a dollar from last year, but that`s to be expected.
What was entirely unexpected were the new rules in the new yuppified version of the park. We had to enter through Gate 1, which had a large chain- link fence around it. Hmmm. Then, we could sit anywhere in the six sections that we liked. Fine. Front row seats-who could ask for more? I could. I wanted to see how much the ”make-your-own baseball cards” would cost, and to purchase one.
As I approached the fences, I was stopped by a guard who asked to see my ticket. He looked at it and hastily announced, ”Bleacher seats aren`t allowed outside.” I explained that I wished to go to the baseball card booth. He repeated his earlier statement, verbatim. When I enquired as to why, he repeated it again.
I went on my merry way-back to my prison row and seat. Caged in.
Keeping the people with bleacher seats from visiting many of the diversions in the park is just uncalled for. Don`t Sox administrators think we who bought $6 seats have enough money for the rest of the park?
I was one who wanted the new park-a little something new and improved. I was wrong. Dead wrong.
And darn, I wanted an elephant ear, too!
