Fernando Valenzuela`s comeback attempt hit another snag Thursday when a physical examination revealed abnormal blood flow in the region of his heart. The California Angels immediately placed Valenzuela on the 15-day disabled list and ordered further tests. The move came a day after Valenzuela was hit hard in his second start.

”The exam, which was a follow-up of his initial physical when he signed with the club, showed an abnormal cardiogram,” team spokesman Tim Mead said.

During the original physical conducted two weeks ago, Valenzuela was found to have ”possible cardiac vessel changes,” Mead said.

Cardiac vessel changes, in a typical case, would indicate a degree of blockage of the arteries.
