I cannot help but feel that there is a connection between two news stories that appeared next to each other in the June 7 Tribune.
I refer to those titled ”Nationally, tests reveal widespread math deficiencies” and ”Summer reading assignments burn some Wauconda parents.” One can only wonder why a responsible parent would object to having an 8th grader read one 400-page book over an entire summer. This might take 10 or so hours out of a two-month vacation and thereby ”. . . jeopardize the family`s vacation.”
I assume that this thoughtful parent will exhibit the same level of indignation in restricting the student to less than 10 hours of TV viewing during the summer.
