The first homes at the village`s first major residential subdivision in about a decade are complete.
Lakewood Estates, an 80-acre parcel where 154 single-family homes, three parks and some stores are planned, is being built on Normantown Road between Weber Road and Illinois Highway 53.
According to David Di Paolo, Lakewood`s development director, the project is being built because of the new Interstate Highway 55 interchange at Weber Road and the area`s demand for housing.
Di Paolo said two model homes at Lakewood have been built, the infrastructure work on 45 lots has been completed and four man-made lakes are now there. The project should be completed in three years, he added.
Another major residential subdivision, Land and Lakes Co.`s Poplar Ridge, also is being planned.
