One of the best programs in the Chicago Public Schools is in danger of being cut. The Disney Magnet Communication Art Center is a two-week program, now open to all 3rd-8th grade classes by application. It uses a theme and explores it through music, drama, art, dance and drama/TV. Same-grade classes from six schools combine in this setting. The results are a notable development in socialization skills, as well as immersion in the arts techniques not available in neighborhood schools.

The Board of Education threatens to eliminate the program completely, or to service only their full-time Disney School children. We feel this would be a tragedy. We encourage any parent whose child has benefited from the program to write to the board.

We must not allow the cancellation of a truly successful program. With so many prob-lems in our system, this bright star cannot be extinguished.
