Italy`s Ing C. Olivetti & C. SpA withdrew its bid to take over ailing French personal computer maker SMT-Goupil SA. The Italian office automation equipment maker said in a statement it wasn`t ”in a position to pursue the project” because the financial conditions for its implementation ”could not be realized in a reasonable amount of time.” Olivetti didn`t disclose any details of its proposed restructuring plan aimed at relaunching the French company and didn`t say who had blocked the implementation of the project.
