Patricia Vader wishes that the death penalty be abolished (Voice, June 19) because it`s atrocious, barbaric and violent. I want parole hearings for murder-ers like Ms. Columbo (who killed members of her own family) stopped for the same reasons.

Every time Ms. Columbo requests a parole hearing, the surviving family and the law enforcement officers must attend to testify against giving parole. This is truly atrocious, barbaric and violent. It isn`t right nor humanitarian for the family and friends of the Columbos to defend a dead family against the release of their murderer. Perhaps this one case speaks loudest for having the death penalty, the partial release of pain and suffering for those of the family that have to relive that moment in the past, now being forced on them by the courts that are there to protect us.

I care little how much Ms. Columbo has learned while in jail, or if she earned a master`s degree or even got ordained as a priest. That fact is she killed and is now alive! And that cannot be changed.
