Candlelight church services and romantic candle glows on restaurant tables may soon become legal in Mundelein.
Fire Chief Randy Justus is proposing that an obscure part of the village`s fire prevention code be eliminated as part of an overall code upgrading.
The ban on use of lighted candles in public gatherings was part of the insurance underwriters` code originally adopted in 1970 and is now ”out of print,” according to Justus.
Greater use of sprinkler systems in buildings will also be part of the new code, reducing the minimum area for installation of sprinklers from 12,000 square feet to 500 square feet.
The new requirement will apply to new construction or major remodeling only.
