After reading the article ”Should white families adopt black children,” I would first ask the public if black families should be allowed to adopt white children. I believe that would be unacceptable to the vast majority of whites in this country, and I do not know of a single case of such an adoption.
The reason that there are so many black children waiting for families to adopt them is not because black people do not want to adopt. They are discouraged from doing so by Department of Children and Family Services and its agencies.
The DCFS regulations for a foster home license, which is required for an adoptive family, are so stringent that very few working class families can qualify. Although this affects some white families, it has a much greater impact on black families. Many people who would like to adopt, including myself, are disqualified over the telephone without so much as a visit by a social worker or agency. I was disqualified for not having enough square footage in my home.
It is also interesting to note that, in states with less ridiculous regulations, black children find good black homes much easier. Michigan and California have few, if any, black children waiting for homes.
