I have attended several weddings this year and the new trend appears to be letting balloons go instead of throwing rice or birdseed. While most people realize rice or birdseed causes slipping and unwanted mess, few may realize the damage a balloon can cause. Animals, especially turtles and whales, ingest balloons. The latex hampers their digestive systems and eventually leads to death. This problem is becoming more common.
Perhaps brides, as well as other party planners, can think of an environmentally safe way to celebrate. How about flowers?
