Mike Royko, in his July 2 column (”Read my lips, no quota for court”), drew a humorous conclusion that President Bush`s choice of Clarence Thomas for the Supreme Court revealed that his actions speak louder than his words-in support of quotas and affirmative action.

One crucial consideration was missing: President Bush`s action was by voluntary choice, not by forced governmental regulations or edict.
