The July 4 column by Eric Zorn on ”adopting a highway” was most interesting, especially since our senators and representatives have been working overtime in an attempt to balance the budget.

However, as the article quoted, they are willing to pay $15.39 an hour for someone to clean up our highways, while the Boy Scouts are offering their service for free. Is it any wonder that our government is in such financial distress?
