I have watched with amusement and disgust the unfolding controversy surrounding Round Lake Beach and thong bathing suits. It amazes me that many area residents have voiced their displeasure over the wearing of these suits and are now trying to have them banned from the beach. They are proof of how inhibited and ridiculous Americans are when it comes to nudity and the human body.
These same ”concerned” parents are the ones who buy their children Freddy Krueger slasher gloves for Halloween and allow them unlimited access to the violence that fills TV programming. It is all right for their children to watch characters such as Rambo kill and destroy, or Jason slaughter the inhabitants of Manhattan, but for God`s sake, a bare buttocks or breast to quote a resident, is ”indecent and gross?”
Instead of teaching our children the bare body is offensive, we should teach them that killing and maiming it is.
