Israel, once again, is getting a bum rap for the failure of the convening of a peace conference. However, it is a condition imposed by the Arab states- that the UN attend the conference-which is the main issue preventing peace talks. The question is, therefore, why do the Arabs insist on UN
participation, especially in light of the fact that the Camp David accords didn`t need the UN, and why does Israel resist it?
Israel`s fear of the UN is well founded. UN resolution after resolution has condemned Israel while ignoring Arab terrorism and atrocities. The UN Security Council spends close to 30 percent of its time obsessing over this tiny embattled democracy. And then there is the libelous UN resolution proclaiming Zionism-the belief that the Jewish people have a right to a homeland like other people-is ”racism.”
And this is precisely why the Arabs want the UN there and are using this precondition to prevent any talks. Israel has said time and again it will meet anytime, anywhere for talks without any preconditions. (Egypt`s late President Anwar) Sadat accepted, why can`t they?
