We appreciate your June 28 article, ”Spaniard says goodbye with final goal in the bag.” Jacquelyn Heard wrote about Fernando Belloso`s last public appearance in the United States as Consul General of Spain: an event at the Hotel Inter-Continental to introduce the Spain `92 Foundation to the City of Chicago.
On behalf of the Spain `92 Foundation I would like to emphasize the significance of this event for the 1992 Quincentennial, for Spain `92 is currently planning a commemorative program with some of Chicago`s finest institutions, such as the Art Institute, the Museum of Contemporary Photography and the Newberry Library.
The reception and the presentation of the Spain `92 Foundation would not have been possible without the generous support of Ameritech International, whose president, Andres Bande, took on the initiative of organizing this event with the collaboration of the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations and the MidAmerica Committee. We are deeply grateful for their help and look forward to building a stronger relationship with Chicago during the upcoming year and beyond.
