In the 1950s China invaded Tibet and exiled the Dalai Lama along with thousands of Buddhist monks. They have borne this injustice by spreading the teachings of the Buddha wherever they have settled. Nothing has ever been done to persuade China to return Tibet to the Tibetans.
We have this persuasive capability now that China wants most-favored-nation status with the United States. I suggest that, until Tibet is returned to the Tibetans, this status be refused.
Tibetans are not Communists, drug pushers, terrorists, dictators or oil-rich playboys. They are simply a poor people who live at the top of the world and export nothing more than the peaceful teachings of the Buddha.
Since our attention is usually only aroused through violent or monetary means, the Tibetans` plight probably will never be heard.
But we do have a voice. So let us write our congressmen to persuade China to give Tibet back to the Tibetans.
