Casual examination of the July 7 WOMANEWS section reveals, among other things: articles on being a better parent; a guide to avoid being victimized by con artists; Judith Martin`s ”Miss Manners” column, and an article on how to better do business in Europe. These would seem to be topics of general interest; why are they pigeonholed as ”womanews?”

Apparently the editorial staff of the Tribune feels that either men are uninterested in parenting, international business, avoiding ripoffs and having good manners, or men have already perfected all these skills and only women need help.

Your targeting of certain topics, such as parenting, gender relations and deportment, as of interest to women only is sexist and divisive, and reinforces negative stereotypes-not only of women but of men as well. It`s sad to see a publication of the Tribune`s stature and influence willingly doing this.
