Stone Container Corp. reported a second-quarter net loss of $300,000, down from net income of $29.5 million, or 49 cents a share, a year earlier. The Chicago-based paper company, which benefited from a $17 million pretax gain in the latest quarter, said its results reflect lower selling prices for most of its products. For the first six months, Stone Container said net income fell to $1.1 million, or 2 cents a share, from $66.2 million, or $1.10 a share, last year. Sales declined to $2.66 billion from $2.88 billion.
