The United States Congress, that asylum by the Potomac, advises the American taxpayer to ”do more with less,” while simultaneously approving record increases in operating expenses for both the House and Senate. They preach one thing while practicing another.
A recent editorial stated the 535 legislative stalwarts cost taxpayers in excess of $2.5 billion annually, while employing 37,000 staff aides-approximately 70 aides per legislator! Is there one taxpayer anywhere in these 50 states that honestly believes his legislators are worth these dollars or staff? Can anyone of sound mind justify these numbers?
The only way to curtail the growth of this bloated congressional operating budget is to inform your senators and representatives to return to reality and remember who they serve. Reduction of these numbers will not be accom-plished by suffering in silence.
