A Utah woman plans to return to court next month in an effort to change the name on her driver`s license.
Wendy Jean Alldredge of suburban Salt Lake City was told after her 1988 divorce that she needs her ex-husband`s permission to alter their divorce decree and allow her to change her license from his name, Steve Jorgensen, to her unmarried moniker. Alldredge says that rule ”rubbed me the wrong way to say the least.”
She filed a divorce discrimination suit in federal court against the Utah Driver`s License Division, but her claim was rejected twice. Attorney Brian Barnard says they`ll try again by filing suit through the state court system.
He says the 35-year-old mother of three is seeking no damages, ”just a court order to force them to change the law.”
