The photograph on page one, section two of the July 18 Tribune that depicts Serbians protesting Croatian politics openly illustrates the cause of the Yugoslavian crisis: Serbians want to annex Yugoslavian lands. This is the impression one gets when reading the signs in the photograph.

One must understand the sign saying ”Stop Croatian Enslavement of Serbian Lands” means that Serbians do not recognize the sovereignty of the Croatian Republic.

Serbs justify their claims to controlling the Republic of Croatia and other non-Serb republics because of the Serbian minority presence in these republics. This Serbian mentality is provoking a Yugoslavian civil war and all the blame will fall on Serbian expansionism.

Serbs must realize that the heterogeneity of Yugoslavia means that most national groups are a minority in other republics. However, Croatians and Bosnian Muslims are not claiming Serbian territory with a Croatian and Bosnian Muslim population. How come?

Leaders of the republics of Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina want to avert war. Unfortunately, the product of Serbian expansionism will be war. Is this really what the Serbian protesters want?
