Jan McReynolds` July 17 rebuttal to Stephen Chapman`s charge of
”sanctimonious hypocrisy” against the pro-choice movement for trying to re-write the Title X program to suit its agenda ended up proving his point.
Chapman said that if forbidding abortion counseling violates free speech
(an argument rejected by the Supreme Court), so does mandating such counseling, since many clinic workers oppose abortion.
After denying that the pro-choice movement`s goal is destroying the unborn, McReynolds concluded that public health clinics ”must ensure” that abortion information be provided by counselors who are not offended by the procedure. The only way to ensure that would be to refuse employment to or fire those who don`t agree with people like McReynolds. In other words, violate their free speech-Chapman`s point.
