In this era of sophisticated electronics, why in the world are the major leagues still relying on the archaic, inconsistent and obviously flawed umpires` calls of balls and strikes?

The strike zones can be electronically set by an electric eye beam. The width of the strike zone is static; only the height of the batter is of concern. A graduated scale from, say, 5 feet 5 inches to 7 feet would govern all batters and keep Andre Dawson from losing his cool.

It would not have worked in Bill Veeck`s era. The midget would have been under the 5`5” beam!
