Mike Royko`s Aug. 9 column, ”Mike Tyson suit hits below the belt,” was at best thoughtless, at worst harmful.

Royko suggests with snide tone and sarcastic asides that Rosie Jones is foolish to object to Tyson`s touching her. ”What did she suffer,” he asks,

”as a result of his bottom-touching?”

A woman who is touched in an unwelcome way has been sexually harassed. She has been violated. If, upon speaking out, she is belittled, she suffers further.

Royko`s is an attitude that perpetuates the exploitation and abuse of women; one which chides the victim, and pardons the offender with a wink and a nudge.
