Occupation: Country singer.
Birthday: Oct. 17, 1958.
Birthplace: Newnan, Ga.
Current home: Nashville.
Marital status: Married to Denise Jackson for 11 years.
Children: Mattie Denise, 1.
Cars: A Ford truck, a Bronco, a Corvette and a Mustang.
Working on: I`m touring all year with Randy Travis, promoting my album
”Don`t Rock the Jukebox,” and I write a song every now and then. I`ll be at the Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet this Friday.
The last good movie I saw was: ”Silence of the Lambs.”
I stay home to watch: I`m always on the road, but I travel with about eight hours of Andy Griffith reruns. I`m a big fan.
Favorite pigout food: Ice-box lemon pie.
Favorite performers: George Jones and Merle Haggard.
Favorite childhood memory: Our house didn`t have heat in the bedrooms when I was growing up, and in the winter, my mother would heat towels and wrap them around my feet before I went to bed. I still like to keep my bedroom real cold.
Prized possession: A 10-pound bass I caught.
I`d give anything to meet: Clint Eastwood.
A really great evening to me is: I`m pretty basic. I don`t like fancy restaurants. I`ll just cook something on the grill and sit on the porch and watch the sun go down or take the top down on the convertible and go for a ride.
The one thing I can`t stand is: Cigarette smoke in the morning.
People who knew me in high school thought I was: Pretty quiet. I had a few friends, no enemies.
I knew I was a grownup when I: Paid that first mortgage.
The worst time of my life: From 1985 to 1989. I was hanging around Nashville, working hard to get a record contract, and I kept getting turned down.
Behind my back, my friends say: ”He`s a real nice boy.”
If I weren`t a singer, I`d be: Doing something with cars or boats. I used to sell cars and fix them up, and I still enjoy that.
When people first meet me, they think I`m: Quiet and shy. Then when they get to know me, I talk them to death.
Three words that best describe me: Old-fashioned, romantic and ignorant.
