Although agreeing with the general message conveyed by its Aug. 18 editorial, the Tribune accused taxpayers of apathy for not checking off the box to contribute $1 to the presidential campaign, ”even though it doesn`t increase their tax bill.”
This type of thinking is what causes our budget deficit to keep growing out of control. I have never checked this box because the taxpayer indeed will eventually have to pay.
