John P. Barnes, 71, of Chicago, died Wednesday in Mercy Hospital and Medical Center. He worked part-time as a laborer for Chromium Corp. in Chicago until his death. Mr. Barnes was an Army staff sergeant during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Marion; three daughters, Linda Daley, Catherine Swiderski and Patricia Sanchez; three grandchildren; and a sister. Mass will be said at 9 a.m. Saturday in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 46th Street and South Hermitage Avenue.
