The pending appointment by Mayor David Pierce of an assistant city attorney to the Aurora Public Library Board is being opposed by at-large Ald. Bob O`Connor, who says it will affect ”the independence of the library.”
Scott McCleary, whose appointment Pierce announced Tuesday, would fill a vacancy on the board. His appointment will be voted on Tuesday by the City Council.
”I think this would be stepping across the line as far as the independence of the library,” O`Connor said.
Pierce, however, said the laws covering the Library Board allow for one City Council member to serve on the board to create ”a close working relationship between the City Council and Library Board.”
No council member is on the Library Board now.
