Occupation: Actor.
Birthday: Sept. 21, 1962.
Birthplace: New Rochelle, N.Y.
Current home: New York City.
Marital status: Single.
Working on: ”Northern Exposure,” on CBS-TV.
Worst job: Caddying. It felt like slavery. I`d carry two 40-pound bags in 90-degree weather for four hours and make $20.
The last good movie I saw was: ”Boyz N the Hood.” It was an urgent, passionate, unrelenting film made from the heart, uncompromising in its depiction of what it`s like to be a victim of your environment and how hard it is to transcend that.
The book I`ve been reading is: I`m reading science fiction because I`m looking for a project that I could make into a movie.
Favorite performers: Simon and Garfunkel. Their Central Park concert in 1981 was sublime. It felt like what I imagine Woodstock was like. Everyone was peaceful and generous.
Every New Year`s I resolve: Something generic about being honest and improving the quality of my life.
I`d give anything to meet: And work with Dustin Hoffman. I respect the approach he takes to his work, and I`d love to watch the process up close to see how he achieves what he does.
The worst part of my job is: Having to impose structure on your life between gigs. Even the most successful actor has a lot of down time, and you have to decide if you`re going to use it destructively or constructively. I have to kick myself in the butt to be constructive. I wrote a little movie that I made this summer, I take guitar lessons, I make sure I don`t waste time.
My fantasy is: I have a peaceful existence on an island in Micronesia.
The one thing I can`t stand is: People who don`t take what they do seriously.
The worst time of my life: My midteens. I had all the usual adolescent problems.
Major accomplishment: Transcending the conditioning that I got as a result of my social background, which was middle-class, suburban, East Coast. The one thing everybody has tried but me is: Jumping out of a plane.
Three words that best describe me: Happy, passionate, angry.
