After the first week of practice, it`s too early to tell the new look of the Irish under coach John MacLeod, but the players have benefitted from a off-season conditioning program.
Daimon Sweet dropped in weight from 196 to 184 pounds, and the percentage of his body fat is down to 4.8 from 6.9.
LaPhonso Elllis, who must realize his potential if the Irish are to have any kind of NCAA tourney hopes against a tough schedule, dropped his percentage of body fat from 10.9 to 7.9.
MacLeod plans to start Elmer Bennett at point guard and says a decision has to be made soon on the No. 2 guard in his up-tempo style of play.
”We want a perfect blend between the running game and the half-court game,” said MacLeod. ”We have to improve defensively if we are going to get to the point where we are significant competitiors in the NCAA each year.”
