Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Please don`t take ”Injun Summer” away. I read in the Oct. 9 Tribune that you are considering not reprinting John McCutcheon`s 1912 cartoon next year. Every year, for some 30 years, my father and I have looked forward to the cartoon`s autumn appearance in your paper.

Once a part of my childhood, the pleasant feeling of seeing the cartoon in the Tribune Magazine each fall has become a part of my adult life. Like a holiday meal under the great tree in Marshall Field`s Walnut Room, like opening day at Wrigley Field, the yearly publication of McCutcheon`s ”Injun Summer” is part of the fabric of Chicago life, a roadmark in the year, a tradition that should be treasured.
