Canadian Triple Crown winner Dance Smartly is the second-shortest morning-line favorite on the Breeders` Cup card at 1-1 and that may be a good sign. Top betting choices have won five of the seven editions.
The Jim Day-trained filly, the first member of her sex to sweep the series, is undefeated in seven tries this year and has lost only twice in 12 races.
”Dance Smartly has trained very well in the mud, and this track is one of the most fair muddy tracks you can have,” Day said. ”Wilderness Song
(also trained by Day) has a heart as big as a mountain, but Dance Smartly is just blessed with a lot more ability.”
A win in the Distaff would make Dance Smartly the top all-time money-winning filly. Lady`s Secret stands atop the list with $3,021,425 in earnings.
Shug McGaughey trains the second and third choices: Versailles Treaty at 7-2, and Queena at 5-1.
Three-year-old Versailles Treaty has never finished worse than second in 11 career runs. The seven-time winner had a four-race victory streak snapped by Sharp Dance in the Grade I Beldame Oct. 6 at Belmont.
”To my way of thinking, she`s the best older filly and mare in the country right now,” McGaughey said.
Arlington Oaks winner Til Forbid is listed at 12-1 in the 13-horse field.
