The Inter-American Development Bank in Washington is distributing $3.6 million to Women`s World Banking in New York to provide loans for business expansion and also for training to an estimated 8,000 women ”micro-entrepreneurs” in Colombia. The development bank`s Donna Eberwine says,
”Most of these women are vendors. They buy things in the morning and sell them at street stands or in small shops. These women can`t go to a local bank for a loan because their businesses are too small and they have no collateral.”
