Eddie ”the Eagle” Edwards, the British ski-jump flop who won fame if nothing else at the 1988 Calgary Olympics, has been declared bankrupt by a Bedford court.
But his manager, Andrew Petherick, said Edwards, who soared to notoriety in Calgary with his amazing lack of prowess, would get his flagging career off the ground again.
”Eddie says he is going to carry on jumping in the European Cup and World Cup for Britain,” Petherick said.
The bespectacled Edwards was much in demand as a celebrity after the Olympics, at one stage earning $144,500 a year in appearance fees. He spent much of his money training to improve his skiing.
Petherick said Edwards, 27, had accumulated debts of around $177,000, including an unpaid tax bill of $52,000.
