Joseph C. Manco, in his letter responding to John Husar`s column of Oct. 23, accuses Mr. Husar of sounding like ”a sadistic Mr. Rogers.” Apparently Mr. Manco and I read different columns.
Mr. Husar responded thoughtfully and intelligently-not, as Mr. Manco states, evasively-to serious letters from students about hunting prairie dogs. Contrary to Mr. Manco`s accusation, Mr. Husar did indeed answer the child`s question, ”How come you eat prairie dogs when you could eat peanut butter and jelly?” The entire column was his answer: Mr. Husar eats meat, and finds hunting to be the most intellectually honest way of doing so.
The children`s questions were honest and intelligent, and deserved an honest and intelligent answer; Mr. Husar gave it to them. Mr. Manco should learn to read more carefully.
