For the first time since the end of World War II, the percentage of Japan`s women college graduates who found jobs was slightly higher than that of men graduates. The Education Ministry in Tokyo says 81.8 percent of the 120,493 women who graduated in 1991 were employed, while 81.1 percent of the 307,586 male graduates were hired. Nearly half the women, 48 percent, took clerical jobs.
